Weserfunke

Date ideas in and around Hameln

The first meeting at Weserfunke always takes place at a restaurant: a booked table, a set evening, lots of people around you. If there was a spark, you'll soon wonder what to do the second time. Here are a few ideas from Hameln and the Weserbergland.

Hameln

4 ideas

Along the Weser

The Weser promenade is right next to the old town. A walk by the water is a good start, you walk side by side and the conversation comes by itself.

Out on the Weser by boat

From April to October, “Flotte Weser” boats leave from the Weserpromenade for round trips and scheduled trips, plus brunch and music cruises.

Up the Klüt

From the Klütturm on Hameln's local hill, the Klüt, you get a wide view over the town. An outing for a clear day.

The Pied Piper on Sundays

From mid-May to mid-September, amateur actors perform the open-air Pied Piper play every Sunday at 12 on the terrace of the Hochzeitshaus, about 30 minutes and free. Then a coffee in the old town.

Kurpark and Palmengarten

The Kurpark is considered Germany's oldest spa park. Its heart is the Palmengarten, Europe's northernmost open-air palm garden. An afternoon there feels like a mini holiday.

Schloss Hämelschenburg

The palace is considered a gem of the Weser Renaissance. If you like cycling, you can get there on the Emmer cycle path, which joins the Weser cycle path.

Bad Münder and Hessisch Oldendorf

Hiking in the Süntel

Between Hessisch Oldendorf and Bad Münder lies the Süntel with its beech forests. One destination is the Hohenstein, a rock face about 50 metres high in a nature reserve. Bad Münder is also home to Süntel beeches, a rare beech variety with strangely twisted crowns and low-hanging branches.

On the Deister

From Bad Münder, hiking trails lead up the Deister, mostly through beech forest. Good for a date where you'd rather walk than sit.

A few thoughts on the second date

  • For a second meeting, daylight and places with other people around are often more comfortable.
  • Doing something together takes pressure off the conversation, whether you go for a walk or look at something.
  • Tell a friend where you are, and get there on your own.
  • Don't make it too long. Better to leave when it's at its best and look forward to next time.
